Pulled Pork Recipe and 15 Ideas to Use It
There is no denying it, one of my favorite kitchen appliances is my slow cooker, especially in the hot summer months when I don’t want to heat up the house with the stove or oven. About once a month, we cook a pork shoulder (aka Boston Butt) with only salt, pepper and garlic powder, low and slow all day, until it is fall off the bone tender, then use it all week in a variety of ways. The taste and texture lends itself to so many delicious and different meals, the list is basically endless!
Slow Cooker Pulled Pork
Serves: 4-6 people Active Time: less than 10 minutes Inactive Time: 4-8 hours
Ingredients:
3-4 pound pork shoulder (Boston Butt)
¼ cup water
Salt, pepper, garlic powder to taste
Preparation:
Generously rub pork shoulder with salt, pepper and garlic powder. Make sure to coat all sides.
Pour water into slow cooker, place pork fat side up (allowing it to render onto meat).
Cook on low for 7-8 hours, or high for 4-6 hours, until the meat is falling off the bone, spoon tender. It is difficult to overcook a roast in the slow cooker, when it doubt, give it a little longer.
Let pork rest until cool enough to handle, shred (discarding bones/connective tissue/excess fat). If storing for later use, pour cooking liquid back onto meat to keep moist and tender.
